NOT TO BE MISSED
The hypogeal necropolis of Sant'Andrea Priu is an archaeological site located on the southern side of the fertile plain of Santa Lucia, in the municipality of Bonorva, which is about ten kilometers away. The complex, one of the most important in Sardinia, is composed of about twenty hypogeal tombs of the domus de janas type, one of which with its eighteen rooms is one of the largest among those present in the Mediterranean basin.
The necropolis occupies the front of a trachytic outcrop about ten meters high and 180 meters long; the entrances to the domus are all located a few meters above ground level and some of them are difficult to access due to the detachment of a significant part of the rocky front. Inside, there is a faithful reproduction of architectural details typical of contemporary homes (beams, joists, architraves, jambs, pillars and perimeter wainscoting) tending to recreate an environment with an appearance similar to the place where the deceased had spent his existence.
Chronologically, the complex can be placed in the Ozieri culture of the Final Neolithic (3500-2900 BC) with use and partial structural modifications of some hypogea which continued until the medieval period.
